St John Boste presented with LiveSimply Award
We are delighted to announce that St John Boste Catholic Primary School has been presented with the CAFOD (Catholic Agency for Overseas Development) LiveSimply award.
The CAFOD LiveSimply award is an opportunity for Catholic communities – parishes, schools, religious orders and chaplaincies – to respond to Pope Francis’ invitation in Laudato Si’ to work with generosity and tenderness in protecting this world which God has entrusted to them.
There were three elements to the award; Live simply, Live sustainably with creation and Live in solidarity with people in poverty. The Washington based school was required to create a main project and two smaller projects on each element and show how these have been embedded into the school to make a difference.
For Live simply, they created a biodiversity garden, for Live sustainably with creation, they integrated recycling into all areas of the school and finally for Live in solidarity with people in poverty, the children have been supporting the charitable efforts in Sierra Leone as well as donating to the Washington Community Food Project.
The Executive Head Teacher, Denise Cushlow, describes what it means for the school to win the award, “As a school we are delighted to win the CAFOD LiveSimply award. The children worked really hard to help the school become more sustainable, more caring about the less fortunate as well as giving back to the community. Along with the recognition of winning a notable award, we received a wooden plaque that we will display proudly at the school.”
